Dutch gambling authority KSA has clarified that all influencers and streamers are banned from promoting online gambling, regardless of follower count.

The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has issued comprehensive guidance to Dutch gambling operators, clarifying that all influencers, streamers, and online personalities are prohibited from advertising gambling services under the country's rolemodel ban.
In a letter to Dutch license holders, the regulator confirmed that it is forbidden to use rolemodels for advertising online gambling offerings. The KSA specifically identified influencers, streamers, and comparable online personalities as falling under this prohibition because people, primarily minors and young adults, want to identify with or associate with them.
Gambling providers were called upon to end any collaborations in this area as soon as possible following the clarification.
Warning
Dutch gambling operators must immediately terminate all partnerships with influencers, streamers, and online personalities following the KSA's comprehensive rolemodel ban clarification. The regulator has specifically called for ending these collaborations as soon as possible.
The KSA emphasized that the ban is not limited to streamers or influencers with a broader public profile. Persons with public recognition such as influencers, bloggers, vloggers, and streamers are considered rolemodels when their reach is large enough to be attractive for recruitment and advertising purposes.
The rolemodel ban was established to better protect vulnerable groups, such as young adults. The KSA signaled that providers were not always clear about when someone fell under the rolemodel ban, prompting this detailed guidance.
Who Qualifies as a Rolemodel
The KSA's rolemodel ban covers influencers, bloggers, vloggers, and streamers regardless of follower count. Anyone with sufficient reach to be attractive for recruitment and advertising purposes falls under this prohibition, as they have the potential to influence minors and young adults.
This clarification removes ambiguity around influencer marketing strategies that Dutch operators may have considered compliant. The regulator's firm stance signals zero tolerance for rolemodel-based advertising in any form, regardless of follower count or platform reach.
The Dutch gambling authority has intensified cooperation with sports bodies to enforce advertising restrictions across multiple channels, demonstrating consistent regulatory focus on protecting vulnerable populations.
