The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has flagged 70 suspicious betting alerts during the first quarter of 2026, according to its latest quarterly report highlighting integrity concerns across multiple sporting disciplines.
The alerts span 10 sports disciplines, with football dominating at 25 alerts (36% of total cases), followed by tennis with 16 alerts (24%) and esports contributing 15 alerts. These three sports account for the majority of detected incidents.
Europe leads regional distribution with 28% of all alerts, followed by North America at 20% and Asia at 13%. Both Africa and South America each registered 9% of cases. Esports alerts are classified as global incidents without specific territorial attribution due to their transnational nature.
| Sport | Alerts | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| Football | 25 | 36% |
| Tennis | 16 | 24% |
| Esports | 15 | 21% |
| Table Tennis | 7 | 10% |
| Other Sports | 7 | 9% |
The report reveals concerning patterns in tennis and table tennis integrity. Six tennis cases occurred in competitions outside major professional circuits, while table tennis generated 7 alerts (10% of total), all linked to events outside International Federation oversight.
Mexico emerged as a particular concern within football, concentrating 8 cases alongside various European and African jurisdictions.
IBIA Alert Categories
IBIA classifies betting alerts into different severity levels based on unusual betting patterns, odds movements, and market behaviors. Yellow alerts indicate initial suspicions requiring monitoring, while red alerts represent serious integrity concerns that trigger immediate investigations and potential referrals to law enforcement agencies.
The report dedicates special attention to Brazil, where 68 alerts were recorded between 2021 and 2025, predominantly in football. This coincides with the country's recently completed online gaming regulation process.
Brazil's sports betting market is projected to reach 28.8 billion reais by 2030, with nationally licensed operators potentially capturing over 80% of gross gaming revenue. The country is expected to command approximately 39% of Latin America's total betting market in 2026, nearly doubling Mexico's market size and establishing regional dominance.
IBIA emphasises the critical need for enhanced monitoring mechanisms alongside market growth.
"Data-driven supervision and cross-sector collaboration are not optional, but essential to safeguard sport and maintain consumer confidence."

The association stresses cooperation requirements between operators, regulators and sporting bodies to maintain integrity standards.
The Q1 2026 data underscores a persistent challenge facing rapidly expanding betting jurisdictions. Brazil's trajectory from 68 historical alerts to market leadership position illustrates how regulatory frameworks must evolve alongside commercial growth.
The concentration of alerts in lower-tier competitions across multiple sports suggests operators and regulators should prioritise monitoring beyond premium leagues. With esports maintaining significant alert volumes and cross-border complexity, international cooperation mechanisms become increasingly vital for effective integrity protection.
