Grupo Orenes has officially inaugurated the Gran Casino Viejo San Juan in Puerto Rico, marking the launch of what the company positions as a premium entertainment destination in the Caribbean. The new venue is strategically located at the entrance to the port of Viejo San Juan, one of the country's most emblematic areas.
The opening celebration was designed as a city-wide event combining tradition, music, culture and entertainment, culminating with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Special programming was arranged for institutional guests, tourism and business sector representatives, and prominent figures from Puerto Rico's social scene.
“The opening of Gran Casino Viejo San Juan represents much more than the inauguration of a new entertainment space. It is a project born with the vocation to integrate into the city, respecting its history, celebrating its culture and contributing to the tourism and economic development of Puerto Rico”
— Gregorio Hernández, Director of Casino Division at Grupo Orenes
The project represents a partnership with Driftwood Capital, which operates the associated Hotel Rumbao. The collaboration aims to create an integrated hospitality experience combining casino operations with hotel services, similar to Cirsa's approach to comprehensive gaming entertainment.
“At Driftwood we spent a lot of time looking for a partner to join forces with to create a truly special casino. Grupo Orenes made it possible. The casino will be a great added value for the guests and clients of Hotel Rumbao”
— Carlos J. Rodríguez, Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of Driftwood Capital
The Gran Casino Viejo San Juan integrates gaming, gastronomy, music and cultural experiences within its operations, targeting both local and tourist markets in the Caribbean region.
Caribbean Expansion Signal
This opening represents Grupo Orenes' continued international expansion beyond its established European markets. The Puerto Rico launch demonstrates the company's strategy to establish premium gaming destinations in key Caribbean tourism hubs, potentially setting a template for further regional development.
Caribbean Gaming Market Context
Puerto Rico operates under US federal gaming regulations while maintaining territorial autonomy over casino licensing. The island's strategic position attracts over 3 million cruise passengers annually, making port-adjacent casinos particularly valuable for capturing tourist revenue during brief shore excursions.
