Tipico Launches €10M+ Champion Fund for Elite Athletes

Tipico has launched the "Tipico Champion Fund" in partnership with Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe, creating a new funding stream designed to propel promising German athletes to world-class performance levels.

The initiative addresses a specific gap in the existing sports funding ecosystem by targeting athletes who have achieved initial success but require additional support to reach the absolute pinnacle of their disciplines. Applications for the program opened immediately, with a specialized review committee from Sporthilfe making final funding decisions.

Targeted Support for Elite Performance

As the National Supporter of Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe, Tipico designed the Champion Fund to provide individualized assistance where traditional funding programs fall short. The fund offers support across five key areas: training and performance enhancement, material costs, physical and mental health services, recovery programs, and nutrition optimization.

"Die 'Tipico Champion Initiative' fördert außergewöhnliche Sportlerinnen und Sportler gezielt auf ihrem Weg an die absolute Weltspitze. Deutschland braucht Vorbilder, die durch Leistung überzeugen. Wir sind sehr stolz darauf, diesen Weg aktiv mitzugestalten."

— Axel Hefer, CEO of Tipico

The program specifically targets athletes who have demonstrated early achievements and need strategic support to bridge the gap to medal-winning performances. This approach fills a critical void in Germany's sports development infrastructure, providing resources at the precise moment when athletes transition from promising talent to potential champions.

Application Process and Eligibility

Eligible athletes include current members of Sporthilfe's Top-Team and Potential-Team athletes who were part of the Top-Team within the past 24 months. The application process requires both a formal submission and a 30-second video presentation where athletes explain their funding needs and performance objectives.

Following approval from the relevant sports federation, Sporthilfe's advisory committee evaluates applications and determines funding allocations. The committee assesses each proposal based on potential for measurable performance improvement and the likelihood of achieving breakthrough results.

"Mit dem neu geschaffenen 'Tipico Champions Fonds' reagieren wir auf die von den Sporthilfe-geförderten Sportlerinnen und Sportlern nachgefragte Förderung von individuellen Projekten. Die Initiative soll damit in einer wegweisenden Phase der Karriere – zwischen ersten Erfolgen und dem Sprung auf das nächste Level – den entscheidenden Impuls für künftige Erfolge im olympischen, paralympischen und deaflympischen Sport setzen."

— Karin Orgeldinger, Sporthilfe board member for athlete promotion

Application Requirements

Athletes must be current Sporthilfe Top-Team or Potential-Team members, or former Top-Team athletes within the past 24 months. The application includes a formal submission plus a 30-second video explaining funding needs and performance objectives, followed by sports federation approval and Sporthilfe committee evaluation.

Sporthilfe's Proven Track Record

Sporthilfe has operated as Germany's primary private sports funding organization since 1967, developing innovative support concepts that adapt to evolving athlete needs. The organization's portfolio extends beyond financial assistance to include career planning and personal development programs.

Sporthilfe-supported athletes account for 90 percent of German successes in international competitions, contributing to 302 Olympic gold medals and 374 Paralympic gold medals. This track record demonstrates the organization's effectiveness in identifying and nurturing talent capable of achieving global excellence.

The partnership with Tipico represents an expansion of Sporthilfe's capabilities, enabling more targeted interventions during critical career phases. The fund addresses specific athlete requests for project-based support that existing programs couldn't accommodate.

Strategic Industry Positioning

The Champion Fund operates within the broader Tipico Champion Initiative, which forms part of the operator's corporate social responsibility strategy. The program emphasizes excellence, performance commitment, and sustainable effort as core values aligned with competitive sports.

Detailed information about the application process and funding criteria is available at www.tipico-champion-initiative.com, where eligible athletes can access application materials and submission guidelines.

Market Signal for Operator Engagement

This initiative reflects a sophisticated approach to sports sponsorship that moves beyond traditional brand visibility toward measurable athlete development outcomes. The partnership model between a commercial operator and an established sports foundation creates a framework that other iGaming companies may examine for their own market positioning strategies.

The focus on individual athlete needs rather than team or federation support suggests that operators are exploring more targeted community investment approaches. For compliance officers, this type of structured partnership with established sports organizations provides a model for responsible community engagement that aligns with regulatory expectations around social contribution.

Industry Partnership Model

The Tipico-Sporthilfe partnership demonstrates how iGaming operators can engage in meaningful community investment through structured relationships with established sports organizations. This model provides compliance officers with a framework for responsible social contribution that aligns with regulatory expectations while moving beyond traditional brand visibility toward measurable development outcomes.

Current members of Sporthilfe's Top-Team and Potential-Team athletes are eligible, as well as athletes who were part of the Top-Team within the past 24 months. All applications require sports federation approval before committee review.
