The Belgian Gaming Commission has released technical guidance for newsagents preparing to implement mandatory EPIS player verification checks, which become legally required from 1 May 2026.
Under the new rules, newsagents must deploy EPIS systems using certified computer equipment. The verification technology requires certification from institutions accredited under Title 2 of Book VIII of the Code of Economic Law, with Gaming Commission technical oversight.
The Commission's secretariat developed the guidance following consultation with newspaper trade associations, incorporating sector feedback on an initial draft. The technical note aims to streamline the certification process for retailers preparing compliance systems.
The EPIS framework represents Belgium's latest measure to strengthen player protection controls at lottery and gaming retail points. Newsagents now join other gaming venues in mandatory implementation of digital verification systems. According to Gaming Commission.
